Do NAD+ Patches Work? What the Evidence Shows

Do NAD+ patches work? What one patch label lists, why NAD+ size matters for skin absorption, and what lab and skin-sample studies have tested so far.

A woman in her 40s looking closely at a small adhesive patch package in her hand, skeptical.

Short answer: No published study has shown that NAD+ patches, a skin-based form of NAD+ therapy, raise NAD+ levels in people. NAD+ has a molecular weight of 663.4 daltons (PubChem), above the roughly 500-dalton limit for skin absorption proposed by dermatologists Bos and Meinardi (Bos and Meinardi, 2000), and published skin-delivery studies have used lab models or skin samples, not living people. A 2026 systematic review of NAD+ supplementation covered only oral and injected routes, so patches were not part of the evidence it assessed (Gallagher and Emmanuel, 2026).

Below: what one patch on sale lists on its label, the size problem, and the only published research on getting NAD+ or its precursors through skin. We took the same approach in our review of GLP-1 patches.

What is an NAD+ patch?

An NAD+ patch is an adhesive patch, sold without a prescription, that lists NAD+ or an NAD+ precursor among its ingredients. NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, listed in PubChem as nadide) is a coenzyme found in cells (PubChem). Nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) and nicotinamide riboside (NR) are precursors, the raw materials the body uses to make it. Our NMN vs NAD+ comparison explains the difference.

Patches like these are sold online as wellness products, without a prescription (PatchAid).

What do NAD+ patches actually contain?

Here is what one seller lists for its NAD+ patch, as an example. This is what the listing says, not a test of what the patch contains or delivers.

Product, as listed in October 2026Listed ingredients per patchListed wear timeListed price
PatchAid NAD+ PatchNAD+ 600 mg, resveratrol 150 mgUp to 8 hours, once a day$24.95

The listing gives an NAD+ amount per patch but does not state how much, if any, passes through the skin (PatchAid). The next section explains why that question matters for NAD+ in particular.

Can NAD+ get through the skin?

Size is the first hurdle. In a widely cited paper, Bos and Meinardi argued that a compound’s molecular weight “must be under 500 Dalton to allow skin absorption,” noting that all known drugs used in transdermal delivery systems at the time were under that limit (Bos and Meinardi, 2000). It is a rule of thumb, not a law.

MoleculeMolecular weight (daltons)Compared with the 500 Da rule of thumb
NR (PubChem)255.25Under
NMN (PubChem)334.22Under
Rule of thumb (Bos and Meinardi)500Threshold
NAD+ (PubChem)663.4About 1.3 times over

NAD+ sits above the threshold. NMN and NR sit below it, so size alone does not rule them out. Being small enough is not proof of absorption, though.

Has any study tested NAD+ patches in people?

No published study has tested an NAD+ patch in people. Published patch, microneedle and skin studies of NAD+, NMN or NR are lab and skin-sample work, and ClinicalTrials.gov lists no registered trial of an NAD+ patch (ClinicalTrials.gov). The 2026 systematic review of NAD+ supplementation covered compounds “administered orally or parenterally” (by mouth, injection or IV), so it did not include patches; it found clinical effectiveness for anti-aging or wellness outcomes “remains inconclusive” for the routes it did cover (Gallagher and Emmanuel, 2026).

The closest published research:

  • Kang 2026, a specially engineered NAD+ carrier. Researchers built an “ion-coupled NAD+ transfersome” and tested it in cells, in pig and human skin explants (skin samples removed from the body) and in C. elegans worms. They reported better NAD+ penetration into the skin samples than with free NAD+ or precursors. Nine authors were employees of LG Household & Health Care. No living people were tested, and the carrier is not the plain adhesive patch on sale (Kang et al., 2026).
  • Sabbagh and Kim 2023, NMN microneedle patches. Patches with dissolving microneedles released up to 91.94% of their NMN over 18 hours in an ex vivo (outside the body) test. This measured release from the patch, not levels in a person (Sabbagh and Kim, 2023).
  • Betsuno 2025, NMN on an artificial skin membrane. NMN in a cosmetic filtrate was detected only in the upper dermis layer of a synthetic membrane, and the authors concluded it “did not reach the subcutaneous tissue” (Betsuno et al., 2025).

None of these measured NAD+ in the blood or cells of a person wearing a patch. That is the measurement a claim like “delivers NAD+ through the skin” would need.

How do patches compare with other NAD+ forms?

Every form has gaps, but they are different gaps. In the trials cited in our NAD+ supplements vs injections guide, oral NR and NMN raised NAD+ in blood or blood cells, while a 2026 review described effects on health outcomes as “heterogeneous and often null or endpoint-specific” (Gallagher and Emmanuel, 2026). For oral liposomal NAD+, there is no published human absorption study (our liposomal NAD+ review). For patches, there is no published human study of any kind. What has been published about the injected route is covered on our NAD+ injection evidence page.

NAD+ offered through PrescribedRX

PrescribedRX does not sell NAD+ patches. Two NAD+ products are offered through PrescribedRX, a subcutaneous injection and a nasal spray, both compounded. Compounded medications are prepared by licensed pharmacies and are not FDA-approved. None of the studies on this page tested these products. Prices as displayed on the product pages in October 2026:

When should you talk to a doctor?

Talk to a licensed provider before using an NAD+ patch if you take medicines or have a health condition. The PatchAid listing says its patch contains resveratrol, “which may affect blood clotting,” and tells anyone who takes a blood thinner or antiplatelet medicine, has a bleeding disorder or has surgery scheduled to speak with a provider first. It also says to stop use if you have irritation or a reaction, and not to use it on broken or irritated skin (PatchAid). In an emergency, call 911.

NAD+ patch FAQ

Do NAD patches work?

No published study has shown that any NAD+ patch raises NAD+ in people. NAD+ is larger than the roughly 500-dalton rule of thumb for skin absorption, published delivery studies used lab models and skin samples, and a 2026 systematic review of NAD+ supplementation did not include patches (Gallagher and Emmanuel, 2026).

Are NAD patches better than injections?

No published study has compared them. There are no published human data for NAD+ patches, and a 2026 systematic review found no eligible outcome trials of IV or intramuscular NAD+. Without measurements for either, the evidence cannot say one is better.
